Tradewise Telecom Equipment Logistics — Because "It Has Bluetooth" Is All It Takes to Trigger TDRA
This often surprises importers: shipping a complete base station, or two wireless earbuds, makes no difference worth talking about. The minute a device sends or receives a radio signal WiFi, Bluetooth, cell phones, GPS, and even low-power IoT chips- it falls under the TDRA’s domain when it lands in the UAE. No exceptions like “it’s just a simple consumer device”! Anything that pings requires documentation.
And according to a clarification published by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) in early 2026, that paperwork now clearly specifies two distinct things: Type Approval of the device itself, plus some form of customs clearance permit tied to why you’re bringing it in for commercial sale, temporarily or privately registered use only, or purely for exhibition purposes. It used to be possible to have one without the other. It doesn’t anymore. This execution has become more stringent, and most of the rebounds that UL would have asked for a specialized escape for last year are from DXB and Dubai Customs.

For the most part, what we witnessed was not due to a device failing testing. They arise from a documentation mismatch where the permit type does not reflect the actual nature of shipment, or a Type Approval submitted without the dealer registration behind it.

As a telecom compliance regime, the UAE rewards regular preparation and punishes shortcuts. This means that unless we have evidence to the contrary, we treat all devices as RTTE and create the compliance file before booking, determining a device as RTTE eligible before shipment, NOT after a hold notice is received.
