Importing to Spain With TradeWise as Your Importer of Record

Spain is one of the fastest-growing data centre and telecom markets in Europe, with Madrid and Barcelona leading the way. Businesses there need a steady supply of IT equipment. Importing to Spain needs an EU EORI number, CE-marked products and a correct declaration with Spanish customs, part of the AEAT. The delivery address also matters, because some Spanish regions follow different tax rules. We act as your importer of record in Spain and manage every filing for you.

Mainland Spain, the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla

Not every Spanish address is inside the EU VAT area.

Mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands follow standard EU VAT, with import VAT of 21%. The Canary Islands are part of the EU customs union but outside the EU VAT area. They charge their own tax, the IGIC, instead of VAT. Ceuta and Melilla are outside both the EU customs union and the VAT area, and use the IPSI tax. Goods moving between these areas and the mainland need customs paperwork.

What Spanish Customs Checks Before Your Goods Are Released

The customs department of the AEAT, Spain's tax agency, clears all imports under the EU Union Customs Code. Duty depends on the commodity code of each item, and import VAT of 21% applies on the mainland. Many IT products carry 0% duty, but import VAT still applies. In Spain, the Ministry for Digital Transformation oversees radio and telecom equipment. TradeWise checks your files to speed up Spain import customs clearance.
