Importing to Sweden With TradeWise as Your Importer of Record

Sweden is one of Europe's most digital countries. Its telecom companies, game studios and green data centres need a steady supply of IT equipment. Importing to Sweden needs an EU EORI number, CE-marked products and a correct declaration with Swedish customs (Tullverket). The way import VAT is handled also affects your cash flow. We act as your importer of record in Sweden and manage every filing for you.

Import VAT Through the Swedish VAT Return

In Sweden, VAT-registered importers do not pay import VAT to customs.

Since 2015, import VAT for VAT-registered businesses is reported to the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) on the VAT return, not paid to Tullverket. In most cases, the same VAT is deducted on the same return, so no cash leaves the business. Companies without a Swedish VAT number must pay the VAT to customs instead. The VAT number must appear on the import declaration.

Sweden Compliance Regulations

These are the Sweden import regulations for IT equipment, the authorities and rules your goods must satisfy before they can be sold or used. Do I need an importer of record in Sweden? If you have no EU entity or Swedish VAT number, yes. TradeWise can take that role.

Most Important for Tech Imports

CE Marking

CE marking shows that a product meets EU rules. For IT and telecom gear, this usually covers the Low Voltage, EMC, Radio Equipment and RoHS directives. Each product needs an EU declaration of conformity and a technical file, and the importer's details must appear on the product or packaging. In Sweden, the PTS checks radio equipment on the market. TradeWise checks your files to speed up Sweden import customs clearance.

Tullverket

Swedish customs collects duty and checks every import declaration.

PTS

The Post and Telecom Authority manages radio spectrum and checks radio devices.

Swedish EPA

The environmental agency runs the producer register for electrical goods.

Sweden's Trade at a Glance
